The Eurasian wigeon is a migratory bird, breeding in northern Europe and Asia and wintering in western and southern Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia. It prefers to nest near shallow wetlands, lakes, and ponds with plenty of vegetation.

In Ukraine, it can be found in various wetland habitats, such as marshes, ponds, lakes, and rivers, during the winter months. It is also known to breed in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

They can also be found in urban parks and other green spaces, where there are ponds and lakes for them to feed and rest.

It feeds on plant food, such as seeds, stems and leaves of aquatic plants, as well as some agricultural crops, such as wheat and barley. During the breeding season, it can also feed on insects and other small invertebrates.
