Garganeys are migratory birds that breeds in much of Europe and Asia and wintering in Africa, South and Southeast Asia.
Most often, they nest on the grassy shores of shallow lakes, wide river floodplains with a large amount of aquatic and near-aquatic vegetation
Usually arrive in Ukraine in early April and leave in October-November. Nest throughout the country, except for the mountains. Often visit natural reservoirs on migration routes, in particular on the Black Sea coast.
They mainly feed on small invertebrates and aquatic plants.
