Long-tailed duck
Latin: Clangula hyemalis
Order: Anseriformes
Family: Anatidae
The long-tailed duck or coween, is a species of sea duck distributed across the northern parts of North America, Europe, and Asia.
It is a rare migratory bird in Ukraine, primarily found during its wintering period along the Black Sea coast and the Sea of Azov. The duck migrates from its breeding grounds in the Arctic to warmer regions during the winter months, seeking open water where they can feed. During migration, the duck can also be spotted on lakes and rivers inland.
It is a carnivorous duck that feeds by diving for mollusks, crustaceans, and small fish. It is capable of diving to significant depths, sometimes reaching depths of 60 meters.
