Black-headed Gull
Latin: Chroicocephalus ridibundus
Order: Charadriiformes
Family: Laridae
The black-headed gull is widely distributed across Europe and Asia, breeding from Iceland and the British Isles in the west to Kamchatka and Japan in the east. During the non-breeding season, it migrates south to coastal regions and inland waters in southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
In Ukraine, it is a common breeder, particularly around inland freshwater bodies such as lakes, rivers, and marshes. It is also frequently seen along the Black Sea coastlines and the Azov Sea. In winter, many birds migrate further south, but some remain in Ukraine, especially during milder winters.
Its diet includes insects, small fish, and invertebrates. It often feeds on waste in landfills.
