The Eurasian treecreeper distributed across Eurasia. Its range extends from western Europe and Scandinavia through central and eastern Europe, across Asia, and into Japan.

It is found in broad-leaved or mixed forests, preferring conifers, as well as in parks and large gardens. Nests in hollows, tree crevices or behind bark flakes.

It mainly feeds on insects and invertebrates. It flies to the bottom of a tree, then climb in a spiral fashion, using its stiff tail for support and its long, thin beak to extract prey from crevices in the bark.
