Breeds across Europe and Asia, migrating to Africa and South Asia in winter. Prefers open gravelly or sandy areas near water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and estuaries.
It arrives in Ukraine in late April or early May and stays until the end of August or early September. It breeds in the regions of Polesia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe, and can be found virtually everywhere during migrations.
Its diet primarily consists of insects, small crustaceans, mollusks, and worms. It typically forages by picking food from the ground or shallow water.
