Yellow wagtail
Latin: Motacilla flava
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Motacillidae
It breeds across much of temperate Europe and Asia. Winters in Africa and South Asia. This species occupies a range of damp or wet habitats with low vegetation, from damp meadows, marshes, waterside pastures, and bogs to damp steppe and grassy tundra.
In Ukraine, it is a widespread breeding bird. It arrives from its wintering grounds in Africa and South Asia in early to mid-April and departs in late August to September.
The Yellow Wagtail gathers its food in wet meadows and open, vegetation-free areas along the river banks, lakes, and swamps, as well as in dry meadows and fields. Its diet includes flies, beetles, caterpillars, spiders, and ants, which it often catches by foraging on the ground.
